# How do you configure VAT for the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla in WooCommerce 2.1?

Back in the month of November 2013 we saw in the post [How do you configure VAT for the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla in WooCommerce 2.0?](/how-to-configure-vat-for-canary-islands-ceuta-and-melilla-in-woocommerce-2-0) how we had to configure VAT for the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla, where the VAT rate is 0%.

Well then, until now, given that WooCommerce 2.0 did not handle the tax configuration correctly, we had to fix it with a few functions in the *functions.php* file of the child theme of our shop, but now it seems that WooCommerce 2.1 has finally learned to handle taxes correctly, so the previous post has become completely obsolete.

Let us see how we must do it now, following the same example that we proposed to you in **[How do you configure VAT for the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla in WooCommerce 2.0?](/how-to-configure-vat-for-canary-islands-ceuta-and-melilla-in-woocommerce-2-0)**.

First of all we are going to go to *WooCommerce -> Settings -> Tax*, and there we are going to configure the VAT handling just as we can see it in the *Tax in WooCommerce 2.1* screenshot found in this post.

[![Standard VAT in WooCommerce 2.1](https://artprojectgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/iva-estandar-en-woocommerce-2-1.webp)](https://artprojectgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/iva-estandar-en-woocommerce-2-1.webp)Standard VAT in WooCommerce 2.1

In our case we have the standard VAT configured at 10% to cover the bulk of the online shop, a VAT at 21% to be applied to some of the products and a VAT at 0% to use on the shipping costs.

The standard VAT at 10% and the VAT at 21% are configured in exactly the same way, only changing the last line and entering its corresponding percentage, 10 and 21. This line must be preceded by all the provinces where we are going to apply the VAT at 0%.

[![21% VAT in WooCommerce 2.1](https://artprojectgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/iva-al-21-en-woocommerce-2-1.webp)](https://artprojectgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/iva-al-21-en-woocommerce-2-1.webp)21% VAT in WooCommerce 2.1

The provinces are configured through their alpha-2 code, which corresponds to GC for Las Palmas, TF for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, CE for Ceuta and ML for Melilla. The country, Spain, must also be identified with its alpha-2 code, that is, ES.

The VAT at 0% is going to be configured exactly as we configured it in the previous post, so it deserves no further explanation.

In this very simple way, we can now make our online shop under WooCommerce 2.1 display taxes to our customers correctly depending on the destination province of the orders.

[![0% VAT in WooCommerce 2.1](https://artprojectgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/iva-al-0-en-woocommerce-2-1.webp)](https://artprojectgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/iva-al-0-en-woocommerce-2-1.webp)0% VAT in WooCommerce 2.1

As for the VAT configuration in our plugin [**WC - APG Weight Shipping**](https://artprojectgroup.com/woocommerce-plugins/wc-apg-weight-shipping), nothing has changed, so by following these steps everything should go back to normal.

We hope you find this new tutorial useful and functional. And as always we look forward to your comments on it.
