A week watching how you work
We do not start by asking what you want to automate. We start by sitting next to whoever does the work and timing it: this is done fourteen times a day and takes six minutes; that other thing once a month, and it does not matter what it costs. There is almost always a surprise in there. The task you had in mind is not the one that eats the most time, and the one that does, nobody had counted.
What we hand you
A short document, not a fifty-page report. Inside: the three or four tasks worth tackling, in what order, what data each one needs and what state that data is in —which is usually the real bottleneck—. And the figures for each one: what it costs to build, what it costs to maintain per month and what we would have to see to call it a success.
We also say no
Sometimes the conclusion is that today it is not worth it: the data is not there, the volume is not enough or the task is too delicate to leave in the hands of a model. We tell you anyway, and the spending stops there. It is the cheapest part of the whole service and the one that avoids the investment that should never have been made.
