Yesterday version 2.4 of WooCommerce was released, called Helpful Hedgehog, something like Useful Hedgehog, which within just a few hours was followed by the release of version 2.4.1 to fix various errors reported by the brave users who installed the first version.
Today, after running the last tests on our test shop, we have updated a good part of the WooCommerce installations we manage to the new version 2.4.1, and we can tell you that, apart from a small error found in the short description, which has already been reported and fixed for the imminent version 2.4.2, we have not detected any kind of problem, either in the plugins or in the installed themes, so we think you can update now, although you can wait a few more hours for version 2.4.2 to be released to make sure that most of the detected problems have been fixed.
What are you waiting for? Update your online shops to WooCommerce 2.4!
What is new
Although apparently not much has changed with respect to the previous version, 2.3.13, the truth is that we have come across several new features.
- The main one, although you will not see it until you install your next WooCommerce, is a new graphical installer that will configure the new online shop in 4 simple steps.
- They have simplified the Flat rate and International flat rate shipping costs and they have added some more than functional shortcodes so that the shipping costs can be customised according to some variables. A more than interesting idea that we are going to incorporate in the future into our WC - APG Weight Shipping.
- The design of the Shipping options has been modified and they now allow us to choose the priority of the different shipping costs set up. If nothing is indicated, they will be shown ordered from the lowest to the highest amount.
- Variable products are now easier and quicker to manage in the administration panel, as their editor has been rewritten and the results with the different product variations have been paginated. It also supports a larger number of product variations.
- Geolocation now supports, without problems, the different cache plugins for WooCommerce. They have finally achieved full compatibility.
- A new feature called Custom AJAX Endpoints has been added, which improves loading times when adding products to the cart as it is used instead of the classic admin-ajax.php. And a new Visual API Authentication Endpoint that simplifies access and improves the security of installations that use the WooCommerce REST API.
- The email templates have been modified.
- The Webhooks tab, which appeared in version 2.3, has now been moved inside the API tab.
As we can see, few new features in the templates, which will help, and a lot, their quick adoption, and many new features under the hood.
Will you tell us about your experiences with the new WooCommerce?
